Creating a short documentary of Bacanora: the ancestral drink of Sonora that persisted against prohibition
We collaborated with NORO team to share the story of this proudly Sonora drink with more than 300 years of history and how it survived more than 7 decades in prohibition. Creating an original short documentary to share the history and legacy of Sonora. Let’s talk about the taste, about how Bacanora was reborn, and how its essence remains strong. This documentary will show the world new forms of consumption, who produces it and how Bacanora has been accepted all over the world.
Storytelling
It was important for the short documentary production team and for Director Itzmara Romero to give a voice to the people that know the essence of Bacanora, and who better than producers, honorary workers, ranchers, baristas who mix drinks with bacanora everyday, and historians who know the past better than anyone. The real work of production was to interview every single one of them and share their knowledge to the world.
Collage Animation Design
One of the most important challenges for editor José Angel Islas in post-production was to deliver a creative way of storytelling. This documentary was based on introducing characters with the use of pop up collage with minimal animation.
